WILMINGTON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ANNOUNCES ANNUAL SPRING FINE ARTS FESTIVAL HOCKESSIN, Del. Wilmington Christian School (w ww.********.***) today issued a call to local and regional arts and crafts vendors to participate in their Fine Arts Festival, scheduled for Saturday, May 12th, 2018 from 10a.m. to 4p.m. rain or shine. To participate, contact Barbara Schiller, bschiller@********.***. The event will be held on Wilmington Christian's 15-acre campus, located at 825 Loveville Road in Hockessin. Admission is free at this family-friendly event. "This event was so successful last year. Our students are again so excited about hosting the public and showing the community just how many wonderful artists and musicians attend school here," said Barbara Schiller, Wilmington Christian School's Fine Arts Director. "We have beautiful facilities, abundant space for artists and vendors to showcase their work and an assortment of food trucks that will accommodate the hunger of our guests. We have more than 300 young instrumentalists, singers, and visual artists from elementary through high school who cannot wait to participate in the festival." Jerry Polman, Wilmington Christian's Upper School Choral Director, said his ensembles are preparing modern and familiar repertoire for the event. "We'll be singing a wide variety of popular hits from the 20th century through today. My singers are enjoying a fresh take on these enduring tunes, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy."
The school's Visual Arts students will display two-dimensional and three-dimensional work in multiple media, ranging from paintings, to wearable art, to sculpture in a variety of forms. "Our families and friends are astounded when they come to school for holiday and spring events and see the work their children produce we are eager to share it with the public in the festival," said Emily Costa, high school visual art teacher at Wilmington Christian. Performances throughout the day include selections by Lower and Upper School choirs and instrumental ensembles, the school orchestra, a barbershop quartet, Jazz Band and the select choral group, Jubilee Singers. Wilmington Christian School's fine arts students regularly are invited to participate in Delaware's All-State Chorus and Instrumental ensembles, and the school is home to 2011 and 2012 Poetry Out Loud State Champions. Wilmington Christian students have been selected for The Governor's School for Excellence in the Arts, scholastic art awards, and local and national art contests. Our Fine Arts Department is dedicated to excellence in the visual and performing arts. The purpose of musical performance at Wilmington Christian School is to provide an outlet for students to glorify God through the arts while excelling in their chosen discipline. At the beginning levels, students are taught the basics of music and proper etiquette both as a performer and as an audience member. As the students advance, these fundamentals are built upon through work in the classroom and the rehearsal process. Students will experience many different artistic styles both Christian and secular. The desired outcome is to inspire and instruct students to become independent performers and technical artists. Wilmington Christian School (WCS) is a college preparatory school serving 450 students in Pre-K3 through 12th grade. Since its founding in 1946, WCS has been firmly rooted in the principles of Biblical Christianity. Our parents come from over 100 local churches. WCS is located in Hockessin, Delaware. WCS is a parent-operated organization, with oversight provided by a self-perpetuating, elected Board of Trustees.
